Workplace Harassment

No More Silence: Workplace Harassment.

Until Women's Day every year, there was widespread celebration on social media about women as sources of energy, empowerment, and diversity.

However, shortly after Women's Day, we continue to hear distressing stories of female employees being harassed by their male colleagues, line managers, or known connections on social media platforms, eg. LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Such behavior is still prevalent and disruptive in today’s society.

This harassment can take the form of sending unwanted messages or calls, making unreasonable demands, asking for favors, or sending inappropriate visuals that make the woman feel uncomfortable or embarrassed.

The question that arises is, why do these individuals feel so desperate to engage in such behavior? Why do they compromise professionalism and view women as their property, thinking it’s acceptable to behave in such a manner and expect favors in return?

Do these individuals not comprehend that when a woman says “NO,” she is not interested in continuing the conversation? Are they unable to read facial expressions or body language?

Are they so intellectually challenged that they cannot understand basic social cues?
Dear Ladies,

It’s important to understand that no one can make you feel embarrassed or force you into doing something you don’t want to do without your consent. In situations like these, you can’t rely on someone else to rescue you.

You need to be confident enough to stand up for yourself and make sure the person understands that their behavior is unacceptable. Even if it seems daunting, anyone can take this step, including you.

Make sure to keep records of any unwanted conversations, including screenshots and recordings of phone calls. Don’t hesitate to report the behavior to the appropriate authorities.

Don’t be afraid to speak out when faced with such situations.

When you successfully resolve this issue, you can then celebrate feminism in a meaningful way.
